This individual will be responsible for: - Providing routine and non-routine support for the development of calculations and documentation related to the civil/structural design and analysis activities for design and deployment of AREVA new reactor designs with minimal or no assistance.
- Preparation of structural engineering documents (steel or concrete - calculations, reports, drawings, criteria documents) in support of new reactor designs.
- Preparation of licensing documents and submittals to regulatory authorities to obtain regulatory approval of the AREVA reactor designs.
- Ensuring compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
- Independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Supporting special projects, as directed.
- Performing other related duties and tasks, as required.
New Plants Engineering (NPE) Civil Structural group is part of the AREVA Plants US organization based in Charlotte, N.C. Qualifications All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this Engineer III - IV opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. - Engineer III - BS in Engineering plus 3-5 years of concrete and steel design/engineering experience. An advanced engineering degree may be substituted for related work experience (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE licenses will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree. Engineer IV - BS in Engineering plus 5-7 years of concrete and steel design/engineering experience. An advanced engineering degree may be substituted for related work experience (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE licenses will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
- BS in Civil Engineering with course work in concrete and steel design plus engineering experience as described above.
- In-depth, broad knowledge of structural engineering standards, techniques and criteria.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Proven problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Fundamental computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability and attitude to learn a variety of new procedures, processes, and tools, while maintaining various stages of production.
- Ability to work in a high paced atmosphere.
- A proactive approach to problem solving.
- Experience with the application of concrete and steel design codes.
- Knowledge of performing dynamic structural analysis.
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position. - Master of Science Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Previous nuclear or fossil power experience.
- Experience using finite element analysis computer codes such as ANSYS.
- Experience with GT Strudl, Tekla, Civil FEM and other computer design tools.
- Successful completion of the Engineering Fundamentals Exam for PE Licensing.
- Computer Aided Engineering tools experience (AutoCAD, Intergraph)
- Professional Engineer's license
- Experience with ASCE 7, ASCE 4, ACI 349 and ACI 318 codes
