MHCAMMP-180360-RF SUPERVISORY CBP AIR INTERDICTION AGENT QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Basic Requirements for All Positions in this Occupation:A current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with the following ratings:airplane, single engine and multi-engine land with instrument; OR rotorcraft helicopter with instrument.Appropriate U.S. military ratings may be substituted.Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable (e.g., an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate).A current FAA Class I Medical Certificate for initial entry or re-entry into the occupation.A current Class II Medical Certificate is acceptable for applicants who currently occupy Customs and Border Protection Air Interdiction Agent positions.A documented log reflecting a minimum of 1500 hours total flight time (100 hours of airplane and/or helicopter hours within the last 12 months) including 250 Pilot-in-Command and 75 instrument/night hours. NOTE:Up to 50% of the 1500 hour total flight requirement may be waived upon verification of prior specialized skills and experiences (e.g., general military flight experience and training, complex aircraft flight instructor experience, multi-engine aircraft time, night vision device operations, imminent danger, ad terrain and/or over-water operations). GS-14:You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level.Examples include directing complex aviation law enforcement operations with interregional/national/international dimensions; developing and deploying innovative and effective aviation enforcement strategies; devising new aviation enforcement techniques; planning and conducting aviation enforcement activities with extensive jurisdictional problems; serving as an expert on coordinating and overseeing aviation enforcement efforts; and independently conducting studies to resolve controversial issues related to aviation enforcement. U.S. Citizenship:Candidates must be United States citizens and present proof of citizenship, if selected. Residency:If you are not currently a CBP employee, you must meet one or more of the following primary residence criteria for the last three years prior to submitting your application for employment: a)Resided in the United States or its protectorate or territories (excluding short trips abroad, such as vacations); b)Worked for the United States government as an employee overseas in a federal or military capacity; or c)Been a dependent of a U.S. federal or military employee serving overseas. Exceptions may be granted to applicants if they can provide complete state-side coverage information required to make a suitability/security determination.Examples of state-side coverage information include: the state-side address of the company headquarters where the applicant’s personnel file is located, the state-side address of the Professor in charge of the applicant’s “Study Abroad” program, the church records for the applicant’s overseas church missions, and/or the state-side addresses of anyone who worked or studied with the applicant while overseas.Applicants must provide this information when filing their application for employment. Time in grade requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of service equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position to be filled. Background Security Investigation:You will need to successfully complete a background investigation before you can be appointed into this position. Training:You must have successfully completed relevant federal law enforcement training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) prior to entry into this position.Entry-level training for Border Patrol Agents and Criminal Investigators meets this requirement. Individuals must be willing and able to engage effectively in contacts with hostile persons, and to work independently under conditions of high accountability.Applicants and incumbents must demonstrate the traits and characteristics important to agent work.These include judgement, problem solving, emotional stability, and interpersonal skills. Drug Testing:If you have not already done so, you must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result before you can be appointed into this position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Occupants of this position are regularly reassigned to new locations for the good of the service with little advance notice.You must be willing to comply with this requirement. Law Enforcement Retirement:This position is a secondary law enforcement position and meets the eligibility criteria for law enforcement retirement under both the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). Employees covered by either retirement system who reach age 50 or over with at least 20 years of service as a law enforcement officer are qualified for law enforcement retirement. In addition, employees covered by FERS (all new hires to the federal government) of any age with at least 25 years of service as a law enforcement officer are qualified for law enforcement retirement. Finally, employees who reach age 57 with at least 20 years of service as law enforcement officers are subject to mandatory retirement. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP):If selected as a law enforcement officer, you will be required to work on an unscheduled basis in excess of the 40-hour workweek.You must be readily accessible to perform this unscheduled work.To ensure your availability, you will receive extra compensation in the form of Law Enforcement Availability Pay. Firearms Requirement:You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties of this position. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment. Travel:Overnight travel may be required on a regular and recurring basis.
