AFPC182135-WG-4607-09/09-CE CARPENTER (Carpenter/AC Equip Mech/Electrician) QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C; (e.g. WG-4600 Wood Work Family, dated May 1969).Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to do the work of a Carpenter without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT) 2. Knowledge of carpentry methods and techniques and skill in constructing, installing, repairing and modifying wood structures. 3. Knowledge of precision carpentry equipment and ability to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance. 4. Knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute and lay out more complex and extract projects. Knowledge of appearance, purpose, and/or use of a variety of insulating materials, vapor sealing compounds, waterproof covers, and fireproof papers to include knowledge and skill in asbestos removal. 5. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; skill in using, setting-up, operating and marinating a variety of woodworking power and hand tools/equipment. 6. Skill in interpreting complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes. Skill in using and maintaining insulation tools and equipment such as electric knife cutters, sewing and stapling machines, saws, shears, knives, rasps, and palms and carpentry tools such as hammers, drills, routers, power sanders, and planes.Skill in servicing power sources and replacing items such as belts, fans, and fuses. 7. Knowledge of masonry and plasterer methods and techniques and skill in constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying structures and ability to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, structural soundness, and finished appearance. 8. Knowledge of the techniques and procedures of brick, block, and stonework and skill in cutting and shaping to complete corners. 9. Basic Knowledge of standard mechanical locking devices and skill in installing locking devices and using templates.Basic knowledge of the principles and theories of the refrigeration cycle, temperature measurement, and properties of several refrigerants. 10. Ability to install, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision.. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
