| Duties Summary: | ||
| Direct and coordinate technical inspection and compliance operations and activities relative to boiler and pressure systems, elevators and kindred systems, and other equipment; develop and implement improvements in standards and operational methods and procedures; and perform other related duties as assigned. | ||
| Minimum Qualification Requirements: | ||
| Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position. Note: Your calculation of experience must be based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience of the type and quality described in Option A or Option B below: OPTION A: Education: Graduation from high school or one year of work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for graduation from high school. General Experience: Three years of experience at a journeyman level or equivalence in high pressure boiler or pressure vessel construction or repair; or as an operating engineer in charge of high pressure boiler operation; or as an inspector of high pressure boiler or pressure vessels. Specialized Experience: One year of boiler inspection experience which demonstrates possession of knowledge of safety inspection and investigation methods and techniques; occupational safety and health laws and codes; and rules and regulations pertaining to the design, construction, installation, maintenance and operation of boilers, pressure vessels and other related equipment; and report writing. This experience must be comparable to the Boiler Inspector class in the State government. Supervisory Experience: One year of work experience over other Boiler Inspectors which involved: scheduling and assigning work to subordinates, establishing work methods and procedures, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness, providing assistance and guidance in problem areas, and rating their performance. Substitutions Allowed: a. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university may be substituted for two years of the General Experience. b. A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering other than mechanical engineering from an accredited university may be substituted for one year of the General Experience. Commission Required: Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for a commission from the State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to conduct inspections of boilers. Such a commission must be acquired within the probationary period following appointment to the position. OPTION B: General Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience as an elevator mechanic. Specialized Experience: One year of work experience which demonstrates possession of knowledge of safety inspection and investigation methods and techniques; occupational safety and health codes, laws, etc., applicable to elevator inspections; principles and practices of electricity, electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, welding and rigging; and the construction, operation and capacity of equipment, and report writing. Supervisory Experience: One year of work experience over other Elevator Inspectors which involved: scheduling and assigning work to subordinates, establishing work methods and procedures, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness, providing assistance and guidance in problem areas, and rating their performance. Commission Required: Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for a commission from the State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to conduct inspections of elevators. Such commission must be acquired within the probationary period following appointment to the position.
